New version of Kerbal Space Program arrives tomorrow, the first full non-beta release. Yes, all sorts of new stuff and features — here’s some promo videos:

Today was a pretty normal day for the most part. Took Selena in for a quick checkup vet visit. Went to work and audited an advanced Excel class (that I’ll be teaching soon).
Regular, normal stuff.
Except when you apply a ‘space’ layer to the day.
Driving home from the clinic with Selena, I heard Go! — a very cool music / archival audio mashup by Public System from their new The Race For Space album. Video below.
Then also noted that Sid Meier’s Starships is due out for iOS. Yes, video below. iTunes link when it’s live on iTunes.
And finally also noted that Buzz Aldrin’s Space Program Manager is ALSO out tonight for iOS. Yes, video ALSO below.
Of course, it’s a silly thing to think that I’d not be picking up all three. Only problem is that this will cut in to my Kerbal Space Program time 😉
Well the GameAThon got off to a bit of a bumpy start, with Twitch TV temporarily banning me for not showing gaming content. So now I’m streaming on YouTube… had a bit of scrambling around to hook it up but it’s done.
Gaming-wise, we loosely stuck to the schedule with Pathfinder Adventure Card Game leading off, followed by some competitive Halo. Looks like we blew over the time allotted for Dwarf Fortress, but I’ll pick up the schedule in a few minutes with some Pandemic on the iPad. I may stick the whole hour or, if I lose too quickly, will find something else to play. Either way, I’ll be streaming it and you can watch the stream here. Next update in a few hours. Oh, and thank you for sponsoring me! The pups appreciate it!
Tomorrow night, Friday night, I’ll be starting a 24hr marathon gaming session to support my friends at CaliCan Rescue. I’m one of the folk who’ve accepted the Play4Paws2 challenge, so yeah, I’ll be gaming, catching up on my gaming deficit over the last few months 😉
It’s been years
Yeah, years since I stayed up ’round the clock. More, actually since I have to work tomorrow morning, so I’ll likely be up over 36 hours. So I’m not sure what to expect, except that as my sleep-deprived brain tries to play games, you can bet that I’ll suck more as the evening wears on. Ah well.
Ok, so I’m looking forward to it, mostly, though the tired bit I’m dreading. But it’s not for me I’m doing this, I’m trying to raise funds to support the organization that brought Bogart and all the other fosters into our (and others) lives. It’s about the people in an organization that works hard and cares about both the animals they rescue from death row (yes, they pull from kill shelters), and they care about the people they match the dogs with. Amazing work, amazing people.
So yeah, in addition to fostering, donating, encouraging and promoting, this is me trying to find another way to support them. How ’bout it, can you help? Donate here. Bid on silent auction items here. Keep reading …
Butt Kicking, for Goodness!
Baldur’s Gate. Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Icewind Dale. These games hold a special place in my heart. I was at the Edmonton Baldur’s Gate launch party when I was covering it for local TV news. Then later, when I worked for BioWare, I contributed to the marketing and communications efforts of these games and the Infinity Engine that they’re built on.
At the time, there was absolutely nothing else that could bring the true D&D experience, the party-dungeon-crawling-holy-crap-is-that-a-Beholder experience to the computer as these games did.
So, through the help of Beamdog, I’ve got copies of the Enhanced Edition versions of these games. And Virginia, they are enhanced — for example, the Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition:
Running on an upgraded and improved version of the Infinity Engine, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition includes the entire Baldur’s Gate adventure, the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack, and never-before-seen content including a new adventure and three new party members: the Calishite monk Rasaad yn Bashir, Neera the wild mage, and Dorn Il-Khan, the evil blackguard.
I want my BGII and so do you!
Here’s how you can support my fundraising efforts through a silent auction and get one of these amazingly engaging and challenging Dungeons & Dragons world games, specifically:
- 2 copies of Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition (PC/Mac)
- 2 copies of Baldur’s Gate 2 Enhanced Edition (PC/Mac)
- 2 copies of Icewind Dale Enhanced Edition (PC/Mac)
The silent auction is over at a Facebook event page. The rules of the auction are pretty simple:
- The auction will be live until I’m done my 24hr game-a-thon at 7pm on February 28th.
- I’ve created one post per item available.
- Bid by placing a comment in the item you want to bid on.
- Highest bid at the time I finish gaming on the 28th claims the auction item.
- I’ll inform auction winners via FB message and/or reply in the relevant auction.
- After you’ve been notified, place your contribution at the Play4Paws2 donation page at CanadaHelps.org — https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/play4paws2-this-time-its-fur-sonal/
- I’ll forward the winner’s details on to Beamdog — they’ll contact you regarding claiming your game through Beamdog.
Simple no? So why are you still here and not over there bidding!
- Beamdog just dog-piled on with 6 classic Dungeons & Dragons games!
- I’ve added my Gaming Schedule.
If you read this post (I’m Crazy and I’m gaming for 24 hours for an amazing cause! Sponsor Me!) then you know that I’m doing a bit of fundraising for my favourite dog rescue — CaliCan Rescue.
But I’ve noticed that I’ve still not received any sponsorships, even though I’ve gone to the extraordinary effort of posting once about it on Facebook, and writing the aforementioned blog post. Hmm, I think I need something more to get my friends involved. 🙂
So, unlike Rene (one of CaliCan’s awesome head honchos), I’ll not be wagering anything that brings (or doesn’t bring) a razor near my noggin.
Rather, I thought I’d reach out to some friends at BioWare and see if they can provide assistance.
And they have. Behold!
My friends at Bioware have generously donated the perfect things for gaming into the wee small hours. And I get to give them away to folk who sponsor me!
- Contigo water bottles
- Contigo hot drink travellers
- A couple of other branded drink containers
- Bioware pens
- A nice, lightweight Bioware backpack!
Now, given the anticipated high demand for these premier branded items we’re looking for a minimum donation of $20.00. One donation per item. And we’ll figure something out for the pens. 🙂
We’ve only got a couple of each item — what you see in the photo is what we’ve got — so I anticipate the more popular ones will go quickly, especially the toques… come on! Bioware invented the gamer toque (or beanie as it’s called elsewhere)… I know, I was with the company at the time!
But anyway, there you go. Bioware branded swag and the warm fuzzy feeling of supporting one of the best dog rescue organizations on the planet.
Simply by sponsoring me 🙂
(oh, and after you’ve done that (thank you!) just send me an email and we’ll figure out how to get your swag to you — bradblog At gmail.com)
