In less than 24 hours I’ll be gaming for 24 hours to support CaliCan Rescue — Cheer me on!

Tomorrow night, Friday night, I’ll be starting a 24hr marathon gaming session to support my friends at CaliCan Rescue. I’m one of the folk who’ve accepted the Play4Paws2 challenge, so yeah, I’ll be gaming, catching up on my gaming deficit over the last few months 😉

It’s been years

Yeah, years since I stayed up ’round the clock. More, actually since I have to work tomorrow morning, so I’ll likely be up over 36 hours. So I’m not sure what to expect, except that as my sleep-deprived brain tries to play games, you can bet that I’ll suck more as the evening wears on. Ah well.

UNDERDOGIt’s about the Underdog

Ok, so I’m looking forward to it, mostly, though the tired bit I’m dreading. But it’s not for me I’m doing this, I’m trying to raise funds to support the organization that brought Bogart and all the other fosters into our (and others) lives. It’s about the people in an organization that works hard and cares about both the animals they rescue from death row (yes, they pull from kill shelters), and they care about the people they match the dogs with. Amazing work, amazing people.

So yeah, in addition to fostering, donating, encouraging and promoting, this is me trying to find another way to support them. How ’bout it, can you help? Donate here. Bid on silent auction items here. Keep reading …

A Classic Dungeon Crawling Silent Auction — for charity!

Thanks to the kind friends at Beamdog I’m able to up the ante for incentives to my sponsors of my 24hr game-a-thon participation in Play4Paws2 — supporting CaliCan Rescue Foundation.

Butt Kicking, for Goodness!

Baldur’s Gate. Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Icewind Dale. These games hold a special place in my heart. I was at the Edmonton Baldur’s Gate launch party when I was covering it for local TV news. Then later, when I worked for BioWare, I contributed to the marketing and communications efforts of these games and the Infinity Engine that they’re built on.

At the time, there was absolutely nothing else that could bring the true D&D experience, the party-dungeon-crawling-holy-crap-is-that-a-Beholder experience to the computer as these games did.

So, through the help of Beamdog, I’ve got copies of the Enhanced Edition versions of these games. And Virginia, they are enhanced — for example, the Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition:

Running on an upgraded and improved version of the Infinity Engine, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition includes the entire Baldur’s Gate adventure, the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack, and never-before-seen content including a new adventure and three new party members: the Calishite monk Rasaad yn Bashir, Neera the wild mage, and Dorn Il-Khan, the evil blackguard.

I want my BGII and so do you!

Here’s how you can support my fundraising efforts through a silent auction and get one of these amazingly engaging and challenging Dungeons & Dragons world games, specifically:

The silent auction is over at a Facebook event page. The rules of the auction are pretty simple:

  • The auction will be live until I’m done my 24hr game-a-thon at 7pm on February 28th.
  • I’ve created one post per item available.
  • Bid by placing a comment in the item you want to bid on.
  • Highest bid at the time I finish gaming on the 28th claims the auction item.
  • I’ll inform auction winners via FB message and/or reply in the relevant auction.
  • After you’ve been notified, place your contribution at the Play4Paws2 donation page at CanadaHelps.org — https://www.canadahelps.org/en/pages/play4paws2-this-time-its-fur-sonal/
  • I’ll forward the winner’s details on to Beamdog — they’ll contact you regarding claiming your game through Beamdog.

Simple no? So why are you still here and not over there bidding!

Thanks for your support, and see you online on the 27–28th. I’ll need your support and encouragement then too, either through Facebook, Twitter, or maybe even through a livestream… stay tuned!

Can I buy your support? It’s for a great cause.

Update:

If you read this post (I’m Crazy and I’m gaming for 24 hours for an amazing cause! Sponsor Me!) then you know that I’m doing a bit of fundraising for my favourite dog rescue — CaliCan Rescue.

But I’ve noticed that I’ve still not received any sponsorships, even though I’ve gone to the extraordinary effort of posting once about it on Facebook, and writing the aforementioned blog post. Hmm, I think I need something more to get my friends involved. 🙂

So, unlike Rene (one of CaliCan’s awesome head honchos), I’ll not be wagering anything that brings (or doesn’t bring) a razor near my noggin.

Rather, I thought I’d reach out to some friends at BioWare and see if they can provide assistance.

And they have. Behold!

View post on imgur.com

My friends at Bioware have generously donated the perfect things for gaming into the wee small hours. And I get to give them away to folk who sponsor me!

  • Toques
  • Contigo water bottles
  • Contigo hot drink travellers
  • A couple of other branded drink containers
  • Bioware pens
  • A nice, lightweight Bioware backpack!

The details

Now, given the anticipated high demand for these premier branded items we’re looking for a minimum donation of $20.00. One donation per item. And we’ll figure something out for the pens. 🙂

We’ve only got a couple of each item — what you see in the photo is what we’ve got — so I anticipate the more popular ones will go quickly, especially the toques… come on! Bioware invented the gamer toque (or beanie as it’s called elsewhere)… I know, I was with the company at the time!

But anyway, there you go. Bioware branded swag and the warm fuzzy feeling of supporting one of the best dog rescue organizations on the planet.

Simply by sponsoring me 🙂

(oh, and after you’ve done that (thank you!) just send me an email and we’ll figure out how to get your swag to you — bradblog At gmail.com)

Cool! Playing pandemic online.
Update:

I’m kinda into gaming — y’all know that. And I’m into my dogs — ya’ll know that too.

So when an opportunity like this popped up, I couldn’t resist.

Sponsor Me!

On February 27th, starting at 7pm, I’m going to be gaming my ass off, gaming for 24 hours straight. Board games, Video games, card games, whatever! I figure that this will get me out of my vast game deficit I’ve been accumulating over the last few years.

And I can help a great charity at the same time.

UNDERDOGCaliCan Rescue is the organization we foster for, and they’re also the folks that brought Bogart into our lives. They do amazing work, and have rescued over 400 small dogs to date. And they have a great dogumentary showing why and how they do, what they do if you wanted to find out more about them and why we love them!

So this is where you come in.

Sponsor Me! I’m figure I’m going to be hurting at about Hour 13, and have a serious case of Console Claw at about Hour 20. Help me stay focused. Inspire me to keep on gaming. Sponsor Me — you can be the reason that I stick it out the whole 24 hours!

It’s easy. Just visit this link at CanadaHelps.org and make a small donation — any will do (thank you in advance!)

And then cheer me on! Go Team Brad! On the 27th, Join me online. I’ll be updating Social Media and this Blog regularly with game results, updates, sleep-deprived comments and other fun stuff. You may see me at my dopiest! Cheer me or Jeer me, but have fun with me!

Or, if you want, let’s hook up online and play something! I’m open to suggestions. I’ll post a schedule when I get my act together.

But back to the why.

It does take a lot of time, energy, and money to keep an organization like CaliCan running. Time and energy are at a premium around here, but I think that it’s sometimes easier to like a cause and wish you could help out. Well this is one way I know I can. I’ll be pinging you, my peeps, quite regularly over the next few weeks. Not only through the Twitter, but I hear that there’s this thing called Email. Pretty effective too, I’m told.

CaliCan is an organization we believe in, and one we enjoy helping. So help us, help them. Sponsor Me, and then join me online on the 27 to cheer me on, or laugh as I lose every game I play.

Go Team Brad!

From the It Must Be Christmas Holiday App Deals dept.

It seems like a few of the good strategy and board games are going on sale now on the Apple App Store as quality publishers have started cutting prices  revealing their holiday app deals.

I’ve played these games and do recommend them as valuable additions to your iOS gaming collection. Prices are discounted at the time of this post, but they may change at the whim of the publisher.

And on with the deals:

Talisman - A great conversion from the well-known adventure board game. Reduced to @2.99 from $6.99.

Small World 2 — Huge discount (9.99 -> 2.99) for this sequel to strategy board game of the year. Well worth picking up at any price.. a steal here 😉

Battle Academy — Derived from an original BBC online game concept, Battle Academy blends intuitive design, compelling gameplay and technical innovation. Reduced to $9.99 from $19.99. Yes, a premium priced title that gets you hours of engaging gameplay.

Drive on Moscow: War in the Snow — Half-priced. Full value. Great strategy presentation of the pivotal battle for Moscow in WWII.

Panzer Corps — Grognards rejoice! Considered teh spiritual successor to the Panzer General series, Panzer Corps is the closest you can currently get to serious armor strategy on the iPad. Reduced from $6.99 to $2.99.

Tempting — Battlelore: Command

Yeah, this little gem looks pretty cool. Yes, it comes in a bit  pricy at under $10, but then again, it looks like there’s some serious gameplay value.

The fine folks at PocketTactics pulled together a rather positive review:

I’m starting to feel a bit spoiled. Seriously, what was the last major board game release that ended up a dud? It sure as hell isn’t BattleLore: Command, the latest release from Fantasy Flight Games, which, despite a major omission, is still a strong contender for digital board game of the year.

If you’re a fan of board games or just strategy games in general, BattleLore: Command is going to trip all your triggers.
