Tomorrow night, Friday night, I’ll be starting a 24hr marathon gaming session to support my friends at CaliCan Rescue. I’m one of the folk who’ve accepted the Play4Paws2 challenge, so yeah, I’ll be gaming, catching up on my gaming deficit over the last few months 😉
It’s been years
Yeah, years since I stayed up ’round the clock. More, actually since I have to work tomorrow morning, so I’ll likely be up over 36 hours. So I’m not sure what to expect, except that as my sleep-deprived brain tries to play games, you can bet that I’ll suck more as the evening wears on. Ah well.
It’s about the Underdog
Ok, so I’m looking forward to it, mostly, though the tired bit I’m dreading. But it’s not for me I’m doing this, I’m trying to raise funds to support the organization that brought Bogart and all the other fosters into our (and others) lives. It’s about the people in an organization that works hard and cares about both the animals they rescue from death row (yes, they pull from kill shelters), and they care about the people they match the dogs with. Amazing work, amazing people.
Baldur’s Gate. Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Icewind Dale. These games hold a special place in my heart. I was at the Edmonton Baldur’s Gate launch party when I was covering it for local TV news. Then later, when I worked for BioWare, I contributed to the marketing and communications efforts of these games and the Infinity Engine that they’re built on.
At the time, there was absolutely nothing else that could bring the true D&D experience, the party-dungeon-crawling-holy-crap-is-that-a-Beholder experience to the computer as these games did.
So, through the help of Beamdog, I’ve got copies of the Enhanced Edition versions of these games. And Virginia, they are enhanced – for example, the Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition:
Running on an upgraded and improved version of the Infinity Engine, Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition includes the entire Baldur’s Gate adventure, the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack, and never-before-seen content including a new adventure and three new party members: the Calishite monk Rasaad yn Bashir, Neera the wild mage, and Dorn Il-Khan, the evil blackguard.
I want my BGII and so do you!
Here’s how you can support my fundraising efforts through a silent auction and get one of these amazingly engaging and challenging Dungeons & Dragons world games, specifically:
But I’ve noticed that I’ve still not received any sponsorships, even though I’ve gone to the extraordinary effort of posting once about it on Facebook, and writing the aforementioned blog post. Hmm, I think I need something more to get my friends involved. 🙂
So, unlike Rene (one of CaliCan’s awesome head honchos), I’ll not be wagering anything that brings (or doesn’t bring) a razor near my noggin.
Rather, I thought I’d reach out to some friends at BioWare and see if they can provide assistance.
My friends at Bioware have generously donated the perfect things for gaming into the wee small hours. And I get to give them away to folk who sponsor me!
Contigo water bottles
Contigo hot drink travellers
A couple of other branded drink containers
A nice, lightweight Bioware backpack!
Now, given the anticipated high demand for these premier branded items we’re looking for a minimum donation of $20.00. One donation per item. And we’ll figure something out for the pens. 🙂
We’ve only got a couple of each item – what you see in the photo is what we’ve got – so I anticipate the more popular ones will go quickly, especially the toques… come on! Bioware invented the gamer toque (or beanie as it’s called elsewhere)… I know, I was with the company at the time!
But anyway, there you go. Bioware branded swag and the warm fuzzy feeling of supporting one of the best dog rescue organizations on the planet.
