Ah, yes. Awards season abounds…and why should the interwebthing be any different. As downloadsquad so eloquently puts it:
File this under “somewhat suspicious.” SEOmoz, a Seattle-based search engine optimization company, has their Web 2.0 award winners available.I say it’s
somewhat suspicious because 1) who cares what SEOmoz thinks, and 2) there’s no year associated with the awards. Clearly
these aren’t from 1998, but even going to nominate next year’s candidates doesn’t give you a year. Maybe this is all a
ruse, designed to increase traffic, add links, and possibly boost their search engine rankings? Nah, couldn’t be.
And in that light, here’s MY list of cool apps, tools, etc from Their list…consider these bradgrier.net approved

Happy Friday Drinking Music….
Filed Under In the life | 6 Comments
Well, what do you know…it’s that day of the week again!
Today, to help the elixer of life go down a little smoother, we present these fine songs by the classic bar-band, Captain Tractor — all legal and legit..etc (or so says their website).
- Another Drinking Song - Quite possibly the best Tractor song ever.
- Frozen Puck to the Head - The CBC says “The Best Hockey Song ever written”.
- 99 Luftballoons - Chris sings authentic 80’s German pop.
- Gwenivere - Like a chick movie… in song… done by men…
- The Last Saskatchewan Pirate - Some classic Tractor.
- The Logdriver’s Waltz - A piece of Canadiana.
And from their latest album, North of the Yellowhead:

Ancient Internet History Rediscovered…
Filed Under Uncategorized | Comments Off
Yep, an early part of Internet history has been rediscovered recently: early blog postings from my first blog — Bradblog of course — have recently come to light courtesy of the Internet Archive.
Some are cool, some are drivel. I’ll be moving the cool ones over to this Wordpress blog, the rest can languish in the archive ![]()

Modding my Xbox…
Filed Under Uncategorized | 2 Comments
[ This item originated at my previous (now defunct) blog bradblog.info -- copy retrieved from the Internet Archive]
A while ago I managed to lay my hands on a refurbished Xbox for a fairly reasonable price. Great, methinks. A game console and a DVD player, all rolled into one. And hey, it’ll even play music from the built in hard drive too¦ but not stock from the factory. No, my friend, you have to void the Microsoft warranty and mess with the happy technology that lies buried within your game console. Once you do that, you then have unlocked the power of your Xbox, and created a Monster¦here’s how I did mine¦ Read more

Google Earth Impact Crater — here’s mine!
Filed Under Uncategorized | Comments Off
So I saw this post on BoingBoing about an article describing using Google Earth to discover ancient impact craters — and remembered a post I made on a previous blog (now lost to history) about doing just that with Google Maps (satellite view).
So, here’s where this image was made in GE:
The location is at:
N 59 08 12.29
W 115 12 40.07
Which puts it in the northwest corner of Alberta.
I checked the University of Brunswick Earth Impact Database — nada.
…so, is it real, or something else?

Google Earth Bomber Found…
Filed Under Uncategorized | 9 Comments
Just gotta love this. Yeah, I’m a few months slow, but hey, I do post the interesting stuff ![]()
A first time poster at the Google Earth Community posted a placemark to this incredible sight of a fully restored Lancaster Bomberwhich just happened to be flying just about over his house (which is why he found it). According to other posters in the thread, this is the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Avro Lancaster, normally located in the City of Lincoln, England (see website).

Music from the masses…sort of.
Filed Under Uncategorized | Comments Off
Have you ever been chatting with a co-worker about music, and really wanted to listen to the tunes you’re talking about? Here’s one cool way; The Hype Machine — it’s kinda like a music search engine, podcast tool, all rolled into one.
I did a quick search on KT Tunstall (using search criteria KT) and received 7 hits. Click on the Flash Player button and all the music in my search is now built into a flash playlist and playing back on my system…cool!
Update: This is majorly cool: Check out the Mashup search! Awesome!!
The Hype Machine supports Winamp, Podcast, Windows Media, Real Player and Flash Player.
